An Extra-Special Peek...

Here is a glimpse into one of our specialty creations.

Can you guess what this is?

.

Jose carefully layered, sculpted, then scratch coated this baaaa-eautiful baby.

.

Here you can see how it takes shape.

The expression is sketched out in icing; many photographs of little lambs are studied from different angles to capture a realistic look...

Then, butter creme "wool" is delicately drizzled all over the body. Jose adds the bend leg in a true-to-life gesture... Then, little the life-sized lamb is complete! This particular L.A.M.B. was served (sans the mint jelly) to our favorite Gwen for her special birthday.
Per our policy, we always wait until after the soiree to share out photos with you (we like to be respectful that way.)
Just delightful!

Cakes on Parade...

Doing L.A. Ink for Kat Von D...

The orders just keep coming in (thank you!) We love it when people get creative in their ordering...this cut out number two was taken to the next level by having our artist pipe on these whimsical musical instruments.

Our boy Javier carefully placed an edible logo atop the hand painted/airbrushed scroll on this full sheet cake. It makes for an impressive presentation.

Jose kept the music going with another of our popular fully sculpted electric guitar cakes, this time in hot pink palette. It does look good enough to eat!

Sunday at the Marriott...

Our friends at the Marriott in Culver City hosted an intimate event on Sunday to give the guests a taste of their talents.
As their preferred cake vendor, we happily brought over s full sheet to share with the visitors, who were delighted with our delicious slices.
We were impressed with the endless buffet the catering department put out; starting with breakfast quiches, fresh fruit, lunch crab cakes, flautas, pot stickers (yum!) veggie platters, assorted cheeses and such. What a spread!

Our neighboring vendors were warm and friendly; a joyful event with gracious gals!

Patron...

Tequila in progress.!
Jose sculpted this absolutely fabulous bottle of Patron for a client; you like?

Fun, Fun, Fun...

Gina hand-painted freshly rolled fondant to create some faux-film strips. With Hollywood being such a big part of our local culture, we get a lot of calls to recreate the icons of LaLaLand.
We tweak out our own interpretations of familiar landmarks and logos, taking care not to step on any toes in the process!

Here is our take on a celebrity star; you can see where Gina's fondant work plays a key focal point in the design. Hooray for Hollywood!

Tony went all islander on us this morning when he garnished this round with beautiful blossoms. He has quite the artistic eye!
.

Suzi created this yummy slumber party-themed cake for Adrianna Robakowski, who celebrated her 11th birthday with a gaggle of girls in Beverly Hills. We've heard that they saved the slab with the character for later on today (ooh...sugar rush!)

A cuddly teddy bear fills this sweet cake box...dee-licious!
Jose went all out when he carefully sculpted, iced, and decorated this free-standing Spider Man creation.
Talk about spectacular!

The person who picks up this special cake will need to place it either in the trunk or on the floor in the front seat so as not to have it at an angle. No driving with our cakes on a seat or lap...that would just make Mr. Spidey tip right over!

A careful drive will be able to transport a cake like this over any windy road or steep hill, (as with any of our cakes!) as long as care is taken to brake properly and drive very slowly!
We have cringed in sheer horror at times when we see an unknowing client put a cake in the lap of a passenger; fortunately we're usually able to nip those happenings in the bud by running out and guiding the clients as to where to place the cake in the car for the safest transport. There are still occasional lead-foot disasters from those who didn't remember that there was delicate cargo in the back, but those instances are few and far between!

This clever client brought in a special bottle of Moet for us to decorate around. The "crystal-ed" "ice" in the silver bucket is so tasty in itself...Patrick Hansen gets very creative in his uses of edible materials!
.

Goings on...

Favorite Hansen-in-law Kathy popped over for a visit yesterday. Kathy was a key decorator here at the bakery back in the day, but left when her daughter Kelly was young to challenge herself in other avenues.
.
Kathy has a free pass to come and delight us with her artistic styling whenever she feels the need. Yesterday she whipped out a cool cake for an event she was throwing, creating it in no time. We like the tombstone. Once a decorator, always a decorator.
.
You can see one of our favorite Kathy-designs on our web site's home page (the detailed, hand-painted 3-tier black & white wedding cake that everybody is talking about.)
Kathy now works (out and at) Gold's Gym...but once a decorator, always a decorator!
.
Pam went all Cheetah-licious on us again, coming up with the perfect Cheetah print on our smooth white butter creme.

We just love doing animal prints and what-not.

Bring it on!

May we have a drum roll please...
Now if we can just change the subject for a moment...

And now for something completely different.
.
Here's a glimpse at the major renovation underway at our closed-for-two-weeks-Beverly Hills Showroom. You'll be so happy when you see the revitalized "Atelier du Drapier!"
.
The design is the brainchild of Hansen's Cakes "inspirator," Michael Willms. More about our collaboration when we're all ready. You are going to be so surprised with the big news that we have in store for you!

Tall Cakes...

There's a nice trend going on right now...people are ordering cool, tall cakes for their celebration more than ever (they're not just for weddings!)
We adore this fabulous fortieth birthday presentation; a bottle of Patron (provided by the client) is always a welcome addition to any party.
It is set off perfectly by the vivid lime icing strips and silver foil leaves. Simply breathtaking!

Dark chocolate plays a major role in this yet-to-be-finished design. I'll have to remember to take a photo when it is all done.
Owner Patrick Hansen jumped right in to prepare a batch of fresh samples for our Tarzana Showroom. Tarzana Man-in-Charge (Jack) personally requested a flat of our marble cake with fresh French butter creme filling. We couldn't refuse.

Daniel prepares part of a tremendous order of cupcakes for a special client. Our cuppys have become quite the talk of the town: fresh, scrumptiously flavorful, and surprisingly affordable. We offer them up in three different sizes, with a multitude of design options. Like our cakes, our cupcakes can be completely customized for your event!

Gina uses a steady hand while hand painting this stacked Carnavale design. The edible metallic silver reflects the light magnificently!

Yes, we love The Simpsons. The team is decorating away...I'll have some more interesting photographs for you tomorrow!

Frank's Ride...

Our lickety-split cake delivery driver, Frank, peeled out in his hot hemi; a cool silver Dodge Dakota modified "Sleeper"... you won't believe just how fast this giant can go!

.

No, we will not ever let him try to deliver a five-tier wedding cake for us in this baby; the last thing we want is to see cake flying all over the 405. For that, he'll stick to our fleet of white Hansen's Cakes vans!

You'll "Bee" Very Happy...

Our Beverly Hills Showroom is now closed for a major remodel; we'll re-open in a couple of weeks with some fantastic developments!
.
For now, we've shifted the calls over to our Los Angeles showroom (a mere 7 minutes away!) so you can still have a fabulous cake for your event whilst we renovate!
.
The phone has been forwarded here, but you may call 323.936.4332 directly or just pop over for a visit. Thanks!

We'll Lasso the Moon...

The moon, the stars...whatever you want. That's what we can do for you.

Another Baby Shower idea...a delightful box made of cake! We've filled her up wth all of hte pink little goodies that traditionally adorn our shower cakes. New moms often keep these tiny treasures as keepsakes for the babies to play with when they're more grown up.
We've created this man/man cake topper for one of our same-sex couples. Our artist has put together a large assortment of male/male female/female pairs specifically for our clientele.

Vibrant dots adorn this scrumptious cake for a Sweet 16...
...and two little sweet peas will have a very special party soon enoough!

A chocolaty-good version of our Carnavale box looks so good; we created a metallic silver version this morning but it was already picked up before we could take out the camera (and, most likely, it is completely devoured by now!)
