Anatomy of a Doll...

Forever-favorite client/friend Tori Spelling challenged us once again to create a show-stopping cake for her baby. This time around little doll Stella is turning two. We brain-stormed with Tori and came up with a custom, larger-than-life Barbie cake based on our classic doll cake design.
To take it to the next level, we custom baked (for the first time) a PINK cake(!) to coordinate with the theme of the party.
Here are some insider photos for your enjoyent:

From JustLuxe.com ...

City Guides: Whether your wedding is traditional, modern or filled with whimsy, three LA bakeries have the fairy tale ending to your wedding day and a cake designed to suit the individual style of any I Do Diva.

The style of your wedding day starts with the proposal and your engagement ring and continues through the cutting of the cake. Whether you're a traditionalist, a modernist or a bit of a gypsy filled with whimsy, there are several decadent, I Do directions to head in when it comes to the cutting of the cake.

Lucky for you, you are in great hands in Los Angeles as LA's bakers are top artisans. They are as skilled and prestigious when it comes to cake decorating and design as Vera Wang, Gaultier and Lhuillier are with the design of the dress. Similar to fashion houses, they too are designing one of a kind atelier style cakes to ensure that great fairy tale ending.

Before you cut in to your cake, think about the lasting impression you want to make on your guests. More importantly think about the style of your wedding and what is a good fit for your big I Do.

The Traditionalist Hansen's Cakes have long been the "go to" baker in LA. If you're a history buff, pull in to the original Hansens's on Fairfax with the largest and greatest wedding cake display in all of LA and catch the lovely Patrick Hansen, a seventh generation baker. Today the legacy continues with famous fans and faces filling the family's bakery walls.

Patrick himself hand delivered a 12 tier cake to the Reagens and will fight with his staff to be the one to deliver the many cakes ordered for the Playboy Mansion. Likewise, Hansen's can be seen at every major award show in the city and was recently the chosen cake for the famed Kardashian Wedding.

The base of Hansen's success is a tightly held family recipe. All cakes are custom made to order and all of their ingredients, including frostings, fillings and the water used are made on site. The taste is unique, hence the popularity.

Pop in to any of their three locations in LA (the original on Fairfax), Beverly Hills or Tarzana to check out their cakes and custom-order your own slice of history. No appointments necessary.

Hansen Cakes is a neighborhood bakery just south of Wilshire Boulevard. It occupies a cozy little storefront at the corner of Charleville and Beverly, which is very artfully decorated. In additon to the wall art, the cake displays are so colorful and intricately designed it almost seems a shame to eat them and spoil the dazzling visual of it all. They pay attention to detail, and their customer service is excellent. In business and family owned for seven generations, Hansen Cakes runs three locations in the L.A. area, offering a large variety of baked goods aside from cakes.

Publicity Happy...

We had a fabulous weekend, first providing fresh cake slices to the GBK MTV Gifting Suite at the London Hotel (and a GIANT real display cake which some couldn't help but poke to see if it was indeed real!)
We'll have a slide show of that two-day event for you to enjoy in just a few days.
THEN...a premiere party for the Food Network's The Next Food Network Star. The contestants and select invite guests (over 200 of them!) were treated to our scrumptious slices during airing of the premiere episode. Exciting!
We'll admit to be rooting for Chef Das, who is a huge Hansen's Cakes booster (and happens to be the Culinary Arts instructor at Beverly Hills High School.) Crossing our fingers!
