The Newport Beach ABC Event at the Fairmont...

Here is our custom-designed five-tiered creation all put together. The finishing details were added on site (strung-pearl edging, etc...)
There were nothing but a few crumbs left by the end of the evening (we were able to sneak a few pieces out to the boys in the valet area!)
Funny, but it was hard for people to believe that the cake was not covered in the fondant coating that everyone and their mother seems to be using all over the country. That fondant can be such an inconvenience; a not-so-yummy concoction that is usually removed by the catering staff before eating.
You can imagine everyone's delight when they found that our smooth-as-glass butter creme was just that: butter creme!
Along with the passed trays of hot appetizers, the Fairmont set up a mashed potato bar with all the fixins'. So good.

GetMarried (on Lifetime) set up their version of Wedding Jeopardy, awarding advertising prizes to the winners of the nuptial trivia contest. Fun times.

Being Green...

A larger-than-life 3-D sculpted Frog sits up for a birthday boy. It's modeled after a beloved toy (bring your's in and we'll make a giant edible toy for you too!)

Another fairy-tale castle on an open storybook...just lovely!

E-I-E-I-Ohhhh!
A basket of Mediterannean fruits (with some U.S.A. apples) make for a eye-pleasing centerpiece that doubles as dessert.

The Creation of Something Special...

Here's a sneak peek at a very special cake we've made for tomorrow's Association of Bridal Consultant's Cocktail Reception at the Fairmont Hotel in Newport Beach. We're so happy (and proud) to be able to provide the opening cake for this National Organization's annual convention.
***This is NOT fondant!***

Styles and Smiles...

Swirls add a lighthearted touch to the rite of marriage. For a more intimate ceremony, a two-tiered cake is plenty big; this one serves 50, not counting the top tier which we assume will be saved for the first anniversary.

This Great Horned Owl is ready to pounce...

...and more pink & brown packages are set to be delivered.

We made this cake for the cast of L.A.'s Musical Theater Guild's opening of The Most Happy Fella. Congrats to that fine troupe of talented actors!

Sooner than we thought...

Turkey time is approaching, always coming up sooner than we realize. The first orders have already been placed, and the stack is steadily growing. Here are some of our favorite designs, recommended not only as mouth-watering desserts, but as eye-catching table centerpieces as well!

The Cupcakes

Cupcake Attack:
The steady surge of the cupcake brigade is growing in strength. People have thrown down their toasted bagels in revolt and are buying up our scrumptious cuppys at a maddening pace.

We were able to infiltrate their legions by cleverly going under cover as a bowl of icing to catch this photo of the Autumn Patrol plotting their next attack.

Hours later, the unfortunate group of sweet innocent cupcakes were systematically devoured by a hungry mob of Secretaries. Our inside source has informed us that reinforcement cakelets have been deployed to replace their eaten comrades.

A White Wedding Window...

A view of our in-progress remodel of the Hansen's Cakes Beverly Hills location.
.
Event designer Michael Willms has created a White Wedding in our window, complete with individual sized wedding cakes at each place setting. Talk about elegant!
.
Here you can see the reflection from an outside shot. You can get a sense of the neighborhood from the charming brick buildings mirrored in the glass.

Now from the inside looking out, a clearer view.

Just wait 'til the gorgeous wall decor goes up, featuring our fabulous cakes, of course!

A High School friend gets married...

'I Do': Author David Jefferson (left) and his new spouse Jeff Bechtloff on their wedding day

.
An excerpt from the David Jefferson Newsweek Article:
.
Despite my unanswered questions about my own motives, I leapt into wedding planning with the ferocity of the fiancées on "Bridezillas." After the unfortunate incident with the homophobic restaurant patron, we settled for a banquet hall at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank that specializes in one-stop-shop weddings. What surprised us most was just how unfazed and supportive all the vendors seemed to be about our pending nuptials, even though some of them had never worked at a gay wedding before. The bakery we chose, Hansen's Cakes in Los Angeles, was a particular surprise: they were already carrying same-sex cake toppers, with mixed-race gay and lesbian couples. This is what I love most about American capitalism: smart business people don't discriminate as long as your money's green.
.
We'd like to thank author David Jefferson for choosing Hansen's Cakes to create his wedding cake. A graduate of Grant High School, David was a classmate and friend of Donna Babbin Feinstein (sister of decorator and Grant Grad Suzi.)

Let the good times roll...

Friend of the bakery, Hotel Angelino & West Restaurant's Catering Sales Manager Jason Brannan, needed a bowling cake for an event. Cooly-cooly-cool (as we like to say...) ... so we "rolled" one out just for him.

Gina made a pre-historic monster for a special birthday. We love to be able to show you the before...

...and after shot!

Beloved client Gail from Beverly Hills had a special two-sided cake, featuring the bride of Frankenstein,

...and the monster himself!

Now that's creative!

Feliz Dia de los Muertos...
