Beverly Hills High School Culinary Arts Fair...

The students at new High School Chef/Instructor Darrell A. Smith's (Creative Cuisine) first Culinary Arts evening were amazing. The newly revamped classroom, filled with state-of-the-art equipment and tools, was spotlessly clean but filled with the enticing aroma of the evening's fare.

Sweet student Desiree E. is eagerly looking forward to participating in Hansen's Cakes addition to the program; a behind-the-scenes tour of the bakery and special internships await the avid chefs-in-the-making.

The kids put out quite the spread, with offerings such as curried chicken, Caprese salad, crab cakes and fresh shrimp cocktail. Suzi brought in the full sheet cake she prepared which featured a variety of decorating techniques for the students to look at. Well, they not only looked, they (and their friends/family) managed to happily nibble away at our delicious cake, leaving nary a crumb! So many questions about the decorating were asked and answered...the kids really enjoyed seeing how icing roses were made, and learning about the different possible ways to create.

The parents and friends in attendance were equally happy to share in a slice (over 100 pieces our our cake were enjoyed,) all extoling the merits of our cake.

Ah yes, there were mini-turkey burgers as well. Delicious!

Lemonade was the beverage of choice, and it seemed like the entire administrative staff was present for the feast.
